Gathering proof and evidence in computer fraud
Cyber Forensics

Many of today’s white collar financial crimes have an electronic component to them - from simple email communications to hacking into servers to steal or alter information, or to insert worms and viruses.

Cyber forensics is the detailed analysis by computer/electronics experts of events within electronic systems. G2 has excellent resources to conduct this necessary part of an investigation. Tracking communications and other types of electronic activity to their origins is like having a bloodhound track a criminal through a swamp. Although the trail can be quite convoluted, a good cyber forensic analyst can track anything directly or very close to its source.

Equally important, this information serves as evidence against the scammer, although it must be obtained legally and handled properly, as in chain of custody. It is not for the amateur sleuth.

In any financial transaction, the participants should maintain and preserve good copies of all electronic communications, keeping hard copies for backup. This can come in very handy later on in the event of a dispute, or if fraud occurs.

Cyber forensics can be useful in dispute resolution as it often helps the parties determine who has a better chance to prevail in court before the time and expense of that is undertaken. In the event of fraud, or any dispute in which you think cyber forensics could play a role, call G2…"The intelligent choice…”
